Bret Cahn will be speaking at the Brooklyn Bar Assocation for the CLE “What are “Letters” in New York State Surrogate’s Court?”

This program covers the purpose of, and how to secure, various types of Letters in Surrogate’s Court, including Letters of Administration, Letters Testamentary, Preliminary Letters, Temporary Letters, Limited Letters, Letters of Administration cta, and Letters of Administrator dbn.

Bret Cahn will be speaking at the New York City Bar Association’s Part 1 of a three-part series “Part 1: Surrogate’s Court for the Non-Surrogate’s Attorney Surrogate’s Court for the Non-Surrogate’s Attorney.”

This program bridges the gap between Surrogate’s Court practice and common challenges faced by attorneys in other fields. Real estate, guardianship, personal injury, commercial, and matrimonial practitioners will gain insights into scenarios they might encounter while serving their clients. Topics will include continuing a business after the death of a shareholder/member of an entity, removing restrictions from Letters to sell parcels of real property and/or compromising wrongful death, personal injury, and VCF proceedings; derivative claims, handing over the reins from a final guardianship account, and handling the validity of a prenuptial agreement or questioning spousal right.

Robert M. Harper will be speaking at the Queens County Bar Association CLE “Article 83 of the Mental Hygiene Law: Interstate Adult Guardianship Issues Including Transfers of Guardianship and Associated Litigation.”

Robert M. Harper will be a speaker at the New York State Bar Association’s: Trusts & Estates Law Section on the panel “DNA, Surrogacy, Frozen Gametes – Planning & Litigating Heirship.”

Building on the Spring 2024 Trust and Estates Meeting session entitled “Kinship Proceedings: Planning to Include or Avoid DNA Relatives,” this session will review current DNA testing case law in estate proceedings, including kinship proceedings, and further discuss estate planning considerations to avoid the issue of claims to inheritance by “DNA relatives”. The speakers will also cover planning required for intended parents in surrogacy, contract and planning considerations for frozen gametes and embryos, and other planning considerations and practical tips.

Bret Cahn will be presenting at the New York State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting for the Elder Law and Special Needs Law Section on the panel “When Medicaid Planning Turns to Estate Litigation.”

The NYSBA Annual Meeting program will feature an Elder Law Update covering state and national issues, including the SECURE Act, Medicaid Aid in Dying, and Medicaid and Estate Planning that Leads to Litigation. A CLE session, Understanding Investments for You and Your Clients, will review investment vehicles, Social Security, and IRA planning. The program is designed to provide foundational information for newer practitioners while addressing nuanced topics for experienced professionals in Elder Law and Estate Planning.

Peter Mahler will be speaking at the New York County Lawyers Association at the Succession Planning for Business – A Strategic Imperative event on the panel “Pivotal, Recent Case Law in the Area of Shareholder and LLC Member Disputes ”

Peter A. Mahler and Becky Baek will be speaking on the panel “LLCs in Extremis: A Survey of Recent Business Divorce Cases From Across the Country” at the American Bar Association’s LLC Institute 2024.

This panel will examine the statutes governing LLCs, which are designed to give members maximum freedom to chart their own course with bespoke operating agreements.

Labor & Employment Partner, Domenique Camacho Moran, will be moderating the panel “Ignite Your Inner Fire: Leading with Passion and Purpose” at the HIA-LI’s 14th Annual Women’s Leadership Conference.

On the panel she will be joined by some of Long Island’s top female business leaders. This event will also highlight women-owned vendors, providing a platform for female entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services.

Robert Harper will be a panelist for the Strafford CLE program “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence in Trust and Estate Planning: Uses, Limitations, Policy and Ethical Considerations.”

This CLE webinar will provide trust and estate attorneys guidance on the opportunities and challenges in utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in trust and estate planning and in the marketing and management of a law practice. The panel will discuss how AI applies to estate planning, drafting and preparing legal documents, marketing legal services, and other key considerations for counsel.

Serene Carino will be a panelist at the New York State Bar Association event “Taking the Lead 2024: Winning Strategies and Techniques for Commercial Cases.”

This program will showcase women commercial litigators through the re-enactment of an actual civil trial with presentations of compelling opening and closing statements and direct and cross-examinations of witnesses, followed by a critique of the presentation by prominent members of the judiciary.  There will also be an awards ceremony for the presentation of the Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin Award for Excellence in the Courtroom, and the Hon. Judith S. Kaye Commercial and Federal Litigation Scholarship to five female litigators exemplifying excellence in commercial litigation skills and practice.  The program and awards ceremony will be followed by a reception.
