Home Improvement Exemption

One of our earlier Tax Tracker posts discussed the 8-year HIEX (home improvement exemption) automatically available for new, Nassau County, single family home construction/additions which were completed by January 1, 2023.

The ball is about to fall in Times Square—and on the HIEX eligibility. If you have not already received the exemption, or your property is only partially complete, it is highly recommended that you document, via building records and photographs, the level of completion as of year-end 2022. While the exemption is automatic by law, the Nassau County Assessor is not infallible, and you may need to prove your eligibility for the grant of exemption. The HIEX can save you a lot of money over the 8-year phase in.
